1964 Colts: The Season That Got Away
The Baltimore Colts hired young coach Don Shula in 1963 and though the Colts got off to a rough start with five straight losses, they rebounded to finish 8–6. John Unitas, Gino Marchetti, Ray Berry, and Jim Parker were all hold overs from the 1958-59 Championship years but young players like John Mackey, Bob Vogel and Johnny Logan became big contributors. The 1964 season saw Lenny Moore rebound from two injury-plagued seasons to lead the NFL with 20 touchdowns and the Colt won the West Division title only to lose to the Browns 27–0 in the Championship game.
This 16-card set features: Bobby Boyd, Ordell Braase, Wendell Hayes, Jerry Hill, J.W. Lockett, Jerry Logan, Lenny Lyles, Fred Miller, Lenny Moore, Andy Nelson, R.C. Owens, George Preas, Willie Richardson, Don Shinnick, Bob Vogel, and Jim Welch.
