The 1958 NFL Championship between The Baltimore Colts and New York Giants is considered by many to be the “greatest football game ever played.” Many recall the Colts winning in overtime, 23-17, on a short-yardage plunge by Alan Ameche, ending the game that put pro football into the national spotlight. Many also remember the brilliant play of their young field general Johnny Unitas, or lineman Gino Marchetti watching the end of the game from the sidelines with a broken leg.
