The 1958 NFL Championship between The Baltimore Colts and New York Giants is considered by many to be the “greatest football game ever played.”  Many recall the Colts winning in overtime, 23-17, on a short-yardage plunge by Alan Ameche, ending the game that put pro football into the national spotlight.   Many also remember the brilliant play of their young field general Johnny Unitas, or lineman Gino Marchetti watching the end of the game from the sidelines with a broken leg. However, not many remember the great supporting cast around these superstars that put pro football on the map.   Now, RetroCards presents a history lesson on this iconic team of NFL Championship history, giving their due to popular Colts stars of the day, such as Bill Pellington, Dick Szymanski, Don Shinnick, Ordell Braase, George Preas, and Don Joyce. Young role players are also featured in this attractive 18-card set, such as Ray Brown, Jackie Simpson, Billy Pricer, and Art DeCarlo, among others.  Players who would later become established stars in the AFL, but got their starts in Baltimore, include Cotton Davidson, Sherman Plunkett, and Johnny Sample, who would come back to help the Jets beat the Colts in Super Bowl III.   Make this set a great supplement to the attractive and popular 1958 football set.  Order yours now!
