1973 Steelers: One Step Closer

The 1973 Pittsburgh Steelers were still building and they stumbled slightly from the previous season where they went 11–3. Injuries to Franco Harris, French Fuqua, and quarterbacks Terry Bradshaw and Terry Hanratty slowed down the Pittsburgh offense as they managed only a second-place 10–4 record in 1973. The defense offered several All-Pros, making them still one stingy unit. This may have been a disappointing season in the eyes of the fans not having moved closer to a championship, but in hindsight, 1973 was merely a stepping stone bigger things to come in 1974. This 20-card set includes Warren Bankston, Rocky...

1961 Packers: Brutally Physical

The Packers showed the football world that they were the real deal in 1960, advancing to the NFL Championship game in Vince Lombardi’s second season as coach. People forget that the Packers went 1-10-1 in 1958, the worst record in franchise history. By 1961, Lombardi had tweaked the existing team, reaching the Championship in 1961 which would be the first of five Championships in seven seasons. A relentless running game and brutal defense were the result of good blocking and good tackling making the Packers the most physical team in the NFL. This set includes: Ken Beck, Tom Bettis, Lew...

Bart Starr: Leadership, Toughness, and Character

Few athletes – no matter what sport – reach the level of esteem, adoration, and honor as Bart Starr has. He captained one of the greatest teams in American sports and in his retirement, was an ambassador of sorts to the league that he help make famous. After a long series of illness and strokes, Bart Starr passed away on May 26, 2019. His rise to being one of the best NFL quarterbacks started with humble beginnings. In college, Bart Starr entered his sophomore year as Alabama's starting quarterback, safety, and punter. His punting average of 41.4 yards per kick ranked second in the nation...

Ray Peters: A 2-Game Player Remembered

One of the pleasures of making custom cards is the occasional athlete that contacts us ands asks to have cards made for him. Often times they use them for autographing, to give to their kids or grandchildren, or just to finally be immortalized on a piece of cardboard. One sweet moment came when the daughter of a former player had cards made for her Dad, and presented them to him on Father’s Day. Ray Peters was a former major league baseball player who never had a baseball card. He played in two games, 1 inning each, and that was the...

1978-79 Milwaukee Bucks: Green & Growing

The 1978-79 Basketball set was always a favorite, with the vertical team name and two photos per card - an action shot and a head shot - a sharp looking design. The Milwaukee Buck took second place in the Midwest Division in 1977-78 and had built a fine team under Don Nelson – a team that would take first place in their division every year from 1980-1986. This Milwaukee Bucks team set features a couple up-and-coming players like Alex English, Lloyd Walton, Ernie Grunfeld, and Kent Benson plus some older roll players such as Norm Van Lier and Jim Eakins....

1968 Baltimore Colts: Hard Luck Season

The 1967 Baltimore Colts team is one that is often forgotten and one of the best "hard luck" teams of the 60s. Coached by Don Shula, the Baltimore Colts posted an 11–1–2 record, which was substantially better than the 9–4–1 Packers or the 9-5 Cowboys – the two 1967 Championship contestants. Despite their record, the Colts missed the playoffs because the Rams, who also had an 11–1–2 record, owned the tie breaker. The following year the Colts had a league-best 13–1 record but were upset by the New York Jets in Super Bowl III. This 22-card RetroCards sets pays homage...

Spotlight On: Marques Johnson

In the 1990s, NBA franchises went on a frenzy of retiring old players numbers. Though appropriate to honor the past, it was overdone and devalued the contributions of the truly great players. The Milwaukee Bucks, who have a very rich history, was one of the franchises that some contend "over-retired" numbers. This happened at a time (the 1990s) when the franchise was struggling and since it was hard to fill seats with a losing record, remembering past glories seemed to fill the void of winning. The Bucks have retired eight numbers thus far, but one deserving player’s number has...

1977 Cowboys Solidified the "America's Team" Moniker

The 1977 Football set is arguably the most attractive football set of the decade.  With bright primary colors replacing the pinks and avocado greens of the 74-76 football sets, the 1977 set has long been a fan favorite.  It is the first RetroCard set to feature this year and the Cowboys are again in the spotlight. It contains many players who were big contributors to the Cowboys run at Super Bowl XII when they defeated the Denver Broncos 27-13.  Players in the set included: Benny Barnes, Bob Breunig, Larry Cole, Doug Dennison, Bill Gregory, Thomas Henderson, Randy Hughes, Jim Jensen,...
